Ruach / HORA

Socialisation is like a folk dance lesson: seemingly-innocuous, potentially-traumatising, mandatory…

The all-singing (by you), all-dancing (with you) interactive performance exploring the pleasures and traumas associated with the process of socialisation. Using his extensive experience as certified folk dance instructor and camp counsellor, Brian Lobel takes you on a tour of the highs and lows of childhood religiosity, youth groups, and sexuality.  Be prepared to dance, to sing and to cheer. If you don’t, Brian will probably think you’re anti-Semitic.

Ruach is currently being developed into a full-length show for theatres and outdoor spaces with support from Arts Council England and Ovalhouse.  Also performed at ArtsAdmin, London.

Ruach is based on HORA, which has been presented at: Arnolfini, Bristol as part of BLOP; Chisenhale Dance Space, London as part of Art Club; Vogue Fabrics, London as part of I’m With You; PSi 15, Zagreb as part of School of Sisyphus; Contact, Manchester as part of Mother’s Ruin.
